The city of Quito, located at an altitude of 2850m, has a very particular climate… in the morning it is generally sunny, around 2 or 3 in the afternoon it starts raining… every single day! 😑
And of course then it gets cold!!!
I wasn’t ready for this climate…
The city is very beautiful, the architecture neat, the buildings white and elegant, dotted with churches and with a Gothic-style cathedral. It’s a bit reminiscent of Europe…
Some parts of the city are very affluent, with modern skyscrapers, trendy restaurants and nightclubs… it doesn’t feel much like Latin America… even the music you hear in the clubs and on the streets is mainly western pop…
But it is at night that the city centre is at its best. All the buildings are illuminated, with plays of light that highlight their beauty and shapes. The only peculiarity is that there is not a soul on the streets of the old town at night… as early as 8.30 p.m. it is difficult to find anyone walking. The reason? The locals consider it a dangerous area. And that is a shame, but it is definitely worth experiencing!
