The second day is over, time to return to civilisation. Do you remember the guys with the motorbikes who promised to pick me up on the way back? Obviously nobody shows up 😀
It’s 7.15, the boat leaves at 7.30 and the harbour is on the opposite side of the island. Panic!
Thank God Adolfo says he knows a couple of guys who have motorbikes and live nearby. By now I give up on the boat, but it’s worth a try. We set off at 7.40am with Adolfo’s friends’ motorbikes, the usual wild ride along the island’s paths. The chain falls off (something I’ve never seen on a motorbike :D), I help him fix it, and off we go. At about 8 o’clock I arrive at the port. I run with little hope to ask if the boat has left yet and with all the calm in the world they tell me that the guide is not there yet and that the boat will leave later….. Peruvian times….. 😀
On departure we realise that there is a slight overbooking 😀
No problem, we travel on the roof of the boat 😀
Next stop Taquile Island. The stopover only lasts a few hours, time to take a walk through the streets of the village, have lunch (an exquisite trout), and discover that for each sentimental status there is a different colour of hat that each member of the community must wear. Very easy to differentiate between those who are single and those who are engaged!
The long return to the city of Puno is punctuated by a party on the boat, dancing and singing to Latin rhythms… never a dull moment!
As for the evening, the menu includes dinner of salchipapas (a plate of fried potatoes and grilled sausage) and a colossal binge of Pisco cocktails. (Let’s blame it on the altitude ;D)….
