Oh yes… my birthday has come this year too. This time, however, I am on the other side of the world, in a country I really like, surrounded by friends, instead of being at work as usual…
The programme for the day includes a trip to an oasis in the middle of the desert. We leave at about 9am and are already in the chaotic traffic of Lima. We pass the suburbs and enter the desert. The road climbs up some totally sandy hills and as you go uphill, the neblina appears. A thick, almost impenetrable blanket that barely allows you to see the car in front of you. The oasis is about one and a half hours from the city and in addition to the desert landscapes, there are glimpses of oceanic coastline. Accompanied as always by Latin music (never lacking on this trip), we arrive at the oasis. Unfortunately, due to the season, what was supposed to be a lush green oasis is a dry and arid area. However, it is worth taking a walk, so between the heat of the desert and gusts of freezing air, unseen landscapes appear, far removed from what we are used to…
The return is lazy and after a delicious lunch of picante de marisco we slip back into the Lima traffic.
The night holds a surprise for me, a dinner in a really delicious Italian restaurant, with truly Italian ingredients.
