The days go by quickly, when you’re having fun everything goes by fast….
And Saturday arrives, the day when I will swim with the giant turtles!!!
Yes, I can’t wait, although I have no idea what to expect.
These days we met some Italians who own a restaurant right next to the hostel. One of them also has a small agency that organises sea excursions, so he offers us a great price with the possibility of swimming in the open sea and for as long as we want, instead of 10 min on the platform.
The advantages of meeting a ‘villager’ 😆
So tuktuk and off you go! We arrive at the pier. We are a nice group of 9 people, we get ready in our swimming costumes, put on our life jackets and ready, on the banana boat into the sea to reach the right spot!
The banana tree stops, there seems to be no turtles, I take off my jacket, turn around and there we are surrounded!!!
Three, four turtles at a time, huge!!!
I lower myself into the water, afraid to let them escape, instead they are intrigued, they come closer, constantly seeking contact, with their hard, stiff fins. It is an indescribable sensation, I find myself with 2-3 turtles swimming around me, majestic and beautiful animals. I feel shy, I am afraid to touch them and scare them, so I let them touch me, sometimes they scratch because of the thick skin, but it is worth it!
I swim for almost an hour with them and then we return to shore with the banana tree, risking sinking because of a passenger ‘misplacement’ 😆
The afternoon is spent on the beach, surf lesson for me and the Italian girl, I finally manage to stand up and catch a wave properly!!! What can I say, a special day!!!
