First day in Cusco, we rush to visit the ruins. Classic tour to the north of the city to see the remains of villages and aqueducts, only instead of returning by the same road I get the unhealthy idea to continue the walk through the hills around Cusco.
The nature is beautiful, with colourful fields, grazing animals and remote villages.
Curiously, at the entrance to the villages (mostly consisting of ruins and half-collapsed buildings) there is a checkpoint organised by the inhabitants.
Seeing a ‘gringo’ arrive, something that certainly does not happen often, I am stopped on the fly.
The person asks me where I am going, why and how… it looks like an interrogation. I then decide to ask questions too, why the blockade? The answer leaves me dumbfounded, why else would they steal our sheep!
After reassuring her that I would not be carrying sheep, I continue on my way :D. The stray dogs don’t seem to like it, they try to maul me and on more than one occasion I find myself having to run away 😀
I walk through places I never thought I would see, the first day in Cusco brings me a different experience… definitely out of the ordinary.
