Paracas, a town consisting of two parts, one tourist, with bars, restaurants, hotels, and hostels, and one residential.
The residential part is dominated by oceanfront villas with manicured gardens, private beaches, and dedicated piers.
The tourist part, on the other hand, is located across from the harbor, with restaurants side by side, offering Peruvian and European food.
The harbor is very pretty, with a myriad of colorful boats, owned by local fishermen.
Walking along the beach, you can reach the nature reserve, home to numerous pink flamingos ( which are not so pink after all), which you cannot enter. Fortunately, the flamingos often cross the limits of the reserve, going to the ocean shore to feed. ( Much to my disappointment, I discovered that it is not true that they stand on one leg, or at least the Peruvian flamingos do.)…
The villas on the beach jar with the battered cottages in the village, the difference is blatant, incredibly stark.
The beach is littered with beached jellyfish, huge and of different colors, dotting no all the shoreline. This is one reason why the urge to take a swim in the ocean suddenly disappears, coupled with the stench of the númerous seaweed..
All in all, the town is very nice, incredibly quiet at night, how much movement during the day.
If it weren’t for the earthquakes…but that’s another story….
