Magdalena de mar is the district of Lima where I stayed. Absolutely off the tourist track, it is a residential district, located in the eastern part of the city and close to the coast.
The streets are very characteristic, with low and colorful houses, but also with some skyscrapers, old abandoned American cars and tuk-tuks at every corner, always honking of course 😀
The center of the district is the market square. A classic square with a garden in the middle, and a small colonial church on one side. The covered market is a maze of narrow streets where you can find all kinds of stalls, from coffee to fish, electronic products, clothing, takeaway food … all accompanied by Latin music, people screaming and smells and colors of all kinds.
But the strangest thing is the voice on the megaphone that, in the square, invites citizens to get vaccinated. Metallic and unnatural, it says more or less: “Magdalena’s friend vaccinate yourself!!! Against covid 19”
Yes, it is not a mistake, the word vaccinated was pronounced with an exaggerated emphasis!
The whole thing repeated over and over, so as to get into your head… if you didn’t already have the 3 doses….
