The big day has arrived, the moment that everyone who takes a trip to Peru looks forward to, the place everyone asks me if I have visited, Machu Picchu!!!
That must be why I am not at all excited about it, on the contrary….
My roommate in the end was a girl from New York, who also has the entrance to Machu Picchu at the same time as me. Perfect, that way there are no wake-up calls! 😆
The ascent is about an hour and a half, up an uphill path in the middle of the forest, which given the altitude everyone fears a little. My roommate is super-equipped, everything needed to climb Everest.
She’s sure to take me off at the first bend, I think….
It is the first time I have walked a mountain path at night, all the noises are amplified and the starry sky is incredible.
The walk is not that difficult, but I can see that the altitude is taking its toll and my roommate is suffering.
After about an hour and a half of climbing and many stops, here is the summit. And here is the queue to get in! All the people who decided to go up by bus.
The tour of Machu Picchu is exactly as you might expect. Breathtaking views, lots of history and lots of tourists. Everything is organised to the max, even the place to take photos is marked with a sign with the ‘selfie’ symbol.
After the descent down the path, we get back on the train and it is a long way to Cusco.
