Since being in Cusco was tiring me out, I decided to join an atv tour. The tour leaves at about 1pm and after driving along a winding road (the hairpin bends have nothing to do with those in Italy) we arrive at a shop. Here they let us taste different types of chocolate, salted, muña-style and normal. After a short break for possible purchases, we set off again in the direction of a salt mine. The group consists of three Brazilian gentlemen, four Colombian girls, a couple and a girl all from Lima. The salt marsh looks incredible from above, an expanse of small white rectangles, which get bigger and bigger as you get closer. It is not the first salt mine I have seen, but the position where it is located is quite unusual, I had never seen a salt mine on the side of the mountain. After visiting the salt mine, it is time to learn how to use the quad bike. Which not everyone in the group knew how to do, so it takes a long time.
The first lake to visit is quite close by, a kind of warm-up, which is necessary given the cold weather that is coming. The lake is pretty, with the mountains in the background, and being almost sunset the colours and lights are already striking.
We leave quickly, darkness is falling. The other lake is further away, about an hour from the first one. In the meantime, one of the quads begins to have problems with a wheel, it is losing pressure. The solution: a bicycle pump! By hand, of course! After more than 10 minutes inflating the tyre (with poor results) we set off again. In the meantime, the sunset is underway and the peaks of the Andes are coloured pink and red, a wonderful sight. Not even the cold can spoil the thrill of such a sunset! ( not true, the cold does!!!😆 )
We arrive at the second lake, nothing special unfortunately… the return is a fight against the darkness and the cold. And the tyre that keeps deflating. We return to Cusco, cold, full of sand but with one of the most beautiful sunsets I’ve ever seen in my eyes….
