The flight was very quick, just 14 hours, just enough time to watch a couple of movies. Telling your whole life story to the stranger sitting next to you, who for the record was very nice (also from Italy). Getting up to keep your legs from getting lost. Eat lunch, the choice was between pasta and meat, for obvious reasons I chose meat. Listening to music. Falling asleep with my mouth open (and probably snoring :DD), looking a thousand times at the map on the display in front of me and the clock.
As soon as the plane landed, everyone got up in a rush, not even at the 100 meters at the Olympics, as if 5 minutes more would change anything on a transoceanic flight. At the baggage claim, of course, my backpack doesn’t arrive anymore, moments of terror, who knows where it went!
Luckily, there it is, the time to go through the formalities for the visa and I’m out.
And then South America hits you right in the face. A myriad of people offering to carry your luggage, give you rides, sell you bus tickets. Cabs honking at you (this will be a constant) and flashing their high beams, old ladies trying to sell you all kinds of sweets and drinks. Obviously everyone is screaming and making a big noise. You try to cross the avenue of the airport but it is a challenge, despite being on the crosswalk there is no one stopping, it seems almost Italy đ
I choose a cab, the one that inspires the most confidence, and I am on the main avenue. Here I realize that I would have slept very little at night, for two reasons: jet lag, but above all for the horns. Everyone honks, for whatever reason! Another car comes by, honk, there’s a pedestrian, honk, a bike, honk, a bus, honk, a bird passes by, honk. The horn is used more than the accelerator and brake. As we drive through the city I feel like closing the window, the neighborhoods we pass through are not very reassuring. After about 30 minutes I arrive at my accommodation, a shower is obligatory and then to bed. Under my window some guys are singing and dancing to Latin American music… I’m too sleepy… I’m in South America!
